The dMAT is mandatory for Indian applicants targeting Master's programmes in Germany starting in the Summer Semester 2027 or later. You must take it if your Bachelor's degree is in Engineering (all branches), Commerce/Accounting/Finance/Economics, or Business/Management.
You are exempt if you are applying for a Bachelor's or PhD programme. Graduates in Life Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Architecture, and Pure Sciences (excluding Economics) are also exempt.

The exam is fully digital, taken on-screen at a licensed test centre, and administered entirely in English. It lasts approximately 3.5 hours, including a break. It is divided into two 90-minute modules: the Core Module (Figure Sequences, Mathematical Equations, Latin Squares) and the General Academic Module (a series of reading and data interpretation testlets). All questions require single-choice answers.
No. You are strictly forbidden from using a calculator, scratch paper, or pens. Every mathematical equation and logical matrix must be solved entirely in your head. This is why targeted mental training is critical for this exam.
The official examination fee is €150 per attempt, payable directly to g.a.s.t. You must take the test in-person at a licensed test centre. The current locations are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Kathmandu (Nepal), Kolkata, Mananthavady, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Pune.
Registration opens on 29 June 2026 and closes on 15 September 2026. The first official test date is 26 September 2026. Results and certificates will be released around 12 October 2026.
There is no official "pass" or "fail" mark. Each module receives a percentile rank and a dMAT score ranging from 0 to 200 (with a mean of 100). The total score is the sum of both modules. It is up to the individual German universities to interpret your score for admission. The certificate is valid indefinitely.
No. The dMAT does not replace APS verification. Instead, it is an additional quality assurance element. Your dMAT results will be attached to your standard APS certificate. Passing the dMAT also does not guarantee university admission.
